There are many benefits to RSS marketing. If you don’t use it yet, it’s time to start.
The traditional methods for using an RSS feed are burning your feed at Feedburner and enabling subscriptions by e-mail, but you should add other methods to get the most from your RSS marketing efforts.
Note: websites are equipped with one feed. The feed updates every time you publish new content. For best results you should submit your feed to several RSS feed directories, but you should submit it once.
Repeated submissions of the same feed to the same directory are interpreted as spam. To get an idea of what we mean, if you use a social media site like Twitter, you may have seen people promoting something several times in one day, or over a few days, using the same tweet each time, which usually comes across as spammy. The same RSS feed sent out more than once to a particular directory can have the same effect. People read RSS feeds, and they don’t want to get the same message repeatedly. In a worst case scenario, your account will be terminated and your IP will be blocked.
What if you could create new feeds using the same content?
Simple Solution: Feed Generator
You can increase your online exposure, build more valuable backlinks and drive more traffic to your site by generating new feeds whenever you publish new content, or by mixing various feeds. Here are two ways to do that:
1. You can collect feeds from your own sites and mix them with other feeds. For example, you can add feeds from other sites that display your content, such as Ezinearticles, Squidoo or Youtube. That way a new feed is created which can be safely submitted to directories.
2. You can use special software that will create a new feed under certain circumstances, such as whenever you write a new blog post. Some software will also automatically submit your new feed to feed directories, saving you lots of time.
As you can see, there is more to feeds than meets the eye. When you know how to deal with your RSS feed properly, you can easily include RSS marketing in your website marketing strategy.
In the RSS chapter in Traffic Ten, we go into this in more detail, revealing what you need to know about the various ways to use your RSS feed to increase your online exposure, build valuable backlinks and drive more targeted traffic to your website(s).
